Registration.
The Reykjavík Birth Center uses an electronic medical record system called Saga when registering health information. Saga is one of the most widespread medical record systems in the country and is used in all the main health institutions and health care centers in the country, a number of private clinics and in nursing homes. Saga is produced and maintained by TM Software in close collaboration with the Office of the Medical Director of Health.
The electronic medical record therefore plays a key role in the daily work of healthcare professionals. According to Act (No. 55/2009), a healthcare professional who receives a patient for treatment is obliged to keep a medical record, and they must be in electronic form as far as possible at any given time. The Birth Center sees a great benefit in relying on Saga in all registrations of those who use our services, and this is in line with our registration system's ideology of continuity in services. This way, medical record information will be available in the right place, at the right time.
According to the Office of the Medical Director of Health, reliable registration and accessible information contribute to safer treatment and better quality of health care. The medical record can therefore be linked to different health care institutions, and thus important information about the individual is shared between institutions. This promotes greater continuity in the treatment and follow-up of women at the various service levels within the health system. Strict requirements are made regarding information security and access control to the electronic medical record.
